The Celia Hammond Animal Trust (CHAT) is looking for a senior experienced receptionist to join the team of four on Reception at CHAT’s clinic in Canning Town. The Trust provides a complete low-cost veterinary service for pet-owners across London who cannot afford, or don’t qualify for, veterinary treatment anywhere else.  We recognise that many people are suffering financial hardship but are not necessarily on the right benefit, or in the right postcode, to qualify for assistance from the major charities. CHAT provides a lifeline for them. Working with us, you can have a direct impact on the lives of animals all over London whose owners rely solely on our low-cost veterinary clinics. The charity also runs an emergency rescue and rehoming service for stray and unwanted animals and has extensive Neuter and Return programme. The welfare of animals is central to all we do in CHAT.

The role will cover Monday-Friday daytimes. This is an exciting and demanding role which includes all the usual duties for a Veterinary Receptionist plus the added responsibility of making sure our clients receive the appropriate level of financial help from the Charity.

You'll be responsible for:
  • Building good relationships with our clients

  • Demonstrating empathy for all our clients irrespective of their circumstances.

  • Diary management; arranging appointments, admissions and discharge of animals.

  • Maintaining accurate and up to date records

  • Completing daily banking reconciliation with exemplary attention to detail.

  • Carrying out welfare assessments and setting up payment plans.

  • Working well in all areas of the charity including the low-cost veterinary clinic and cat shelter; giving support to your colleagues including our rescue team and our founder Celia Hammond who works in the clinic and is very much at the heart of the Charity.

  • Continually looking to improve and develop our services.

  • You will have a helpful and willing attitude at all times, and have excellent communication skills.

  • You will be IT literate, a confident user of Microsoft Office.

  • Ad-hoc admin duties

Our Clinic is very busy and it may be difficult to fulfill this role without some previous experience of working in a fast-paced veterinary environment. You may be a vet nurse looking for a new challenge or a receptionist at a private practice frustrated by being unable to book essential treatment for clients’ pets because they cannot afford it -- or perhaps you have experience working in another charity animal hospital. However, if you don't have a veterinary background but feel this is the sort of job you have always wanted and believe your personal qualities will impress our interviewers, please do apply by sending your CV and a covering letter explaining why you are interested in, and suitable for, this role. Please note that we only consider applications with an appropriate cover letter. Closing date 17/5/19
